THE DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS INSPECTOR GENERAL (ig) GENERALLY REFUSES TO investigate a VA problem.
Veterans contacting the VA Inspector General (IG) about VA violations of law or procedure may not be helpful to the veteran. If fact, the Inspector General apparently will not even communicate the veteran's complaint to the appropriate Regional Office or VA agency. The IG generic response sheet below sent to a complaining veteran in September 2014 essentially stateed that the IG is too important and busy to assist most veterans. Of course, the VA IG office will do almost anything if it involves publicity for the IG office before the media reports on an internal VA problem. The 2014 Phoenix VA Medical Center scandal investigation where veteran medical appointments were delayed for months and years was investigated by the IG after whistleblowers went to the national media and investigative reporters began to investigate.
